Week 4 — Enclosure

I wanted to make an enclosure for my Pcom Project, which is an piano/octave.

So what I will need for the control pannel:

8 buttons for 8 notes; A power switch.

I bought a bamboo kitchen drawer from the container store to use it to hold my arduino.

Then I started to make the control panel. The first thing is to measure dimension of every component. IMG_3624.JPG

The hardest dimension to get is that of the box’s dimension. It took me three test on cardboard to get it right. And even it is right on the cardboard. I found that it is a little bit off to cut on wood.


Then I started to create laser cut files to build the control panel.

After I cut the first hole for my button, I realized it was too small to squeeze the button into. And if I make it 0.02inch bigger, it doesn’t really stay.


So I used hot glue to fix it.


Now I had to work with the first hole I drilled which is to small for my button. I am not sure if this is the best way to do it, but I used a Dremel to sand it. And this is so hard. It took me about one and a half hours..



I tried to hard to push the button in that my wood cracked…..

But finally it fits in.
